"Birds fly, fish swim, man thinks and learns. Therefore, we do not need to motivate children into learning by wheedling, bribing or bullying. We do not need to keep picking away at their minds to make sure they are learning. What we need to do, and all we need to do, is bring as much of the world as we can into their lives; give children as much help and guidance as they ask for; listen respectfully when they feel like talking; and then get out of the way. We can trust them to do the rest." John Holt in How Children Learn
Our hotel, the Sheraton Colonial in Wakefield, Massachusetts, offers us lots of space in an area of our own, and a great location. It's close to Boston to allow for more exploration and discovery, with hiking trails right nearby and a full health club with tennis courts, sauna, fitness equipment and an Olympic-sized pool.
We'll all enjoy complimentary Internet access in all the guest rooms. There's a beautiful lobby to hang out in. The restaurant offers good food and friendly service, and there are many other dining options nearby,as well as a Trader Joe's!
If you've been looking forward to visiting Boston come early and stay late. The room rates are great for Boston and the hotel is very convenient. Also, if you want to visit Salem and Boston's North Shore the hotel is a very short drive away.
The Sheraton Colonial has a bunch of suites available, some with kitchenettes, in addition to regular rooms. Please book as early as possible to ensure that you get a room! We've run out in previous years. You can register online at the link on the left, or call (781) 245-9300 and ask for the Northeast Unschooling Conference rate.
Standard rooms are $99 per night, and Junior Suites are $139. If you want to make a Boston vacation of it, you can reserve nights for several days before and several days after the conference at the same rates, a great rate for Greater Boston.
